If you’re backpacking in Morocco and looking for the best hostels in Chefchaouen then you’re in luck. See, Chefchaouen is a bright blue town in the Rif Mountains that is overflowing with cheap places to stay.
So, if you’re on a budget then you’ll have no problem finding accommodations for $15.00 per night, $30.00 if you splurge on a private room.
Yeah, I have been to Chefchaouen multiple times, since I live in Morocco, and have never had a problem finding an affordable hostel.
But, the first time I was here I wanted to stay in a hostel to save money and meet people since I was traveling solo.
Today I like staying at hostels in Chefchaouen because they are awesome, help me meet people, and allow me to save money. Plus, they are nice and feel almost like a hotel anyway.
Just be sure to book a hostel that is located in or around the Medina. Yeah, this is the only blue part of the city and is where you’ll want to be to make the most of your trip.
However, if you arrive by bus then you’ll have to walk around 20 minutes uphill to the Medina. Or, you could grab a cab for 20 Dirhams ($2.00). Either way, get ready to enjoy some of the best budget-friendly places to stay in Chefchaouen.

1. Hostel Aline – Party Hostel

⭐️ Rating: 9.0/10.0 (541 Reviews) Price: $7.00 for a dorm and $27.00 for a private 📍Location: Rue Sidi Ahmed El Ouafi 82, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on Booking.com now!
If you like a well-located hostel with a vibrant atmosphere and want to make genuine connections with other travelers then stay at Hostel Aline.
Not only is a delish breakfast included with your stay, but dorm beds come with privacy curtains. Guests can also chill on a beautiful rooftop terrace (this is where you have brekkie) with amazing views of the Spanish Mosque.
“This was my 2nd stay here and is my go-to hostel in Chefchaueon. Lcatiom, staff, rooms, breakfast, terrace, and facilities are awesome.”

The kitchen is also well-outfitted for cooking and the staff, like Yassine, are always there to help you with anything you need.
Additionally, their is a nice Moroccan-style common room where you can meet other people who are looking to have a good time. That being said, this place isn’t super wild and you definitely won’t see anyone puking in the bathroom.
But, it’s easily one of the more social hostels in Chefchaouen and is a great place to go if you want to meet people who will enjoy the best things to do in Chefchaouen with you. Just bring an adaptor for the outlets in Morocco.
2. Vallparadis Pension Familiar “FIRDAUS” – For Solo Travelers
⭐️ Rating: 9.3/10.0 (366 Reviews) Price: $15.00 per night (single room with shared bathroom) 📍Location: Rue Ibn Asskar, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on Booking.com now!
The first thing you need to know is that there are no dorms at Vallparadis Pension Familiar. However, that’s okay since they have single rooms available with both shared and private bathrooms.
I love this since I always hate paying for a double room if it’s just me.
However, they also have three and four-person rooms if you’re traveling with friends and want to book a room together.
The prices are also super reasonable and you’ll be tucked away in a quieter part of the Medina. So, you’ll have no problem getting a good night’s sleep, especially since quiet hours start at 11:00 pm.
“Clean, beautiful and lovely place with really picturesque views from the terrace. Super comfortable and very clean. I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Thank You!”

Rooms are also simple but clean and include decent Wifi (34 Mbps) as well as access to a communal kitchen that is spacious and great for cooking.
There are also tons of communal areas where you can meet people including three terraces and a lounge. So, if you’re lonely after solo traveling Marrakech then this is the place to go.
One negative is that there are no space heaters so it does get cold in the winter. Breakfast is also not offered so you’ll have to go to one of the best restaurants in Chefchaouen for that.
3. Riad Baraka – Great All Around
⭐️ Rating: 9.3/10.0 (2542 Reviews) Price: $15.00+ per night (privates are $30.00) 📍Location: Hostel Baraka, 91000, Morocco Details: Read more on Hostelworld now!
I LOVED my stay here and highly recommend booking this hostel in Chefchaouen. Firstly, it’s super well-located in the Medina. Yes, it can be tricky to find but they send you a video that you can use to find the hostel. Yup, super helpful.
Secondly, the staff were insanely lovely. They helped me organize a trip to Akchour Waterfall so that I could make friends and split a taxi with other travelers. It was a great way to meet people and made hiking in Chefchaouen way more fun.
I also loved hanging out on the roof, soaking up the views, and meeting other travelers. TBH, the dorms are very bare bones, but my private room was lovely and had a cool Moroccan vibe to it.
“Hostel is beautiful, very calm/serene vibe. sitting on the roof terrace with the call to prayer echoing off the mountains was genuinely surreal. only negatives were the dorms being left unlocked despite having locks? would also say the atmosphere is probably better suited to couples/small groups rather than solo travellers :)”

It was quiet and they even had a space heater that I could use to warm up since it was winter.
The hostel is definitely on the quiet side though. But, you can easily meet people if you want to.
The only thing I didn’t like was the breakfast. It was “MEH” at best. They also don’t have any laundry facilities so you’ll have to walk outside the Medina to wash your clothes. Otherwise, it’s an epic hostel that is insanely well-priced.
Oh, and the Wifi was actually good enough that I was able to do work while I was traveling. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how many days to spend in Chefchaouen but was happy I spent a few days here.
4. Hotel Souika

⭐️ Rating: 8.2/10.0 (759 Reviews) Price: $16.00 per night (for a private room with a shared bathroom) 📍Location: Rue Souika, Derb Hadi Alami, Souika, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on booking.com now!
Honestly, you are not gonna find any hostel in Chefchaouen cheaper than this place. I mean, is it the best hotel in Chefchaoune ever? No.
But, they are located right in the Medina and offer guests sweeping views of the Medina from their rooftop terrace. It’s also traditionally decorated with Moroccan tiles and the staff are lovely.
“Although I don’t mind shared facilities, I was thrilled to get a room with a private bath/shower. The location in the Medina is perfect. The terrace has a wonderful view.”
Schuerger (read more reviews now)
They even have two living rooms where you can sit on the couch and watch some TV, as well as a communal kitchen (limited hours and a crappy camp stove with two burners) where you can make breakfast.
Or, just add breakfast to your stay for 27 Dirhams ($2.70) per person.
That being said, this place is very basic and not super clean. So, only stay here for a few nights. Yeah, you’ll encounter things like limited outlets in rooms, sinks with no water, and the shower rapidly going from hot to cold.
5. Riad Sakura
⭐️ Rating: 9.2/10.0 (600 Reviews) Price: $45.00 per night 📍Location: av sidi abdelhamis Q/msalla, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on Booking.com now!
If I’m being brutally honest this is more of a budget-friendly riad in Chefchaouen than a hostel. But, this hotel in Chefchaouen feature super affordable rooms and is well-located in the, you guessed it, Medina.
All private rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, Wifi (mediocre at best), flat-screen TVs, epic views, and A/C.
The real highlight of your stay though will be relaxing on the rooftop terrace where you can enjoy lovely views of the city and surrounding landscape. Who knows, you might even figure out why Chefchaouen is blue.
“This hotel is just outside the medina on the side of a mountain. It’s an easy five-minute walk to the main square and lots of restaurants. It’s very quiet Noor, the innkeeper, was very gracious and helpful.”
Yamamoto (read more reviews now)
While all the rooms are pretty nice, there is one that is dimly lit and that has a toilet that smells like a dirty sewer. If you get this room, just ask to switch to one of their MUCH better rooms.
Yeah, we got stuck here and immediately went to another room. The staff were helpful and didn’t mind us switching at all.
It’s worth noting that breakfast is not included in your stay. But, it isn’t super expensive and costs like 50 Dirham ($5.00) per person.
6. Riad Mauritania
⭐️ Rating: 8.4/10.0 (805 Reviews) Price: $20 per night 📍Location: Rue Souika Avenue kadi alami, Souika, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on booking.com now!
Honestly, this place is a super cute, beautiful blue riad with plain but nice rooms with comfy beds. Yes, the rooms are a bit small but the price is great AND breakfast is included.
There’s even a rooftop terrace for you to hang out on, but I promise you will be super impressed by the magical blue and white courtyard with light streaming in through the skylight.
“The rooms were clean, the stuff extremely nice and helpful .. it was a nice experience over all”
Zahra (read more reviews now)
You’ll also be well-located in the Medina and will find that the staff is super nice and helpful. The one downside is that some of the windows are hard to close.
You also might have to ask for a towel since they sometimes don’t make it into the rooms. The breakfast is also not the greatest since you don’t get water or juice with your meal.
But, you really can’t beat this price for a private room with breakfast included.
7. Dar Rass El Maa
⭐️ Rating: 9.1/10.0 (281 Reviews) Price: $40.00 per night 📍Location: Rue Rass El Maa, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on booking.com now!
Recently opened in June of 2022, Dar Rass El Maa has a prime location near the Kasbah and features spectacular, air-conditioned rooms that sit among quiet gardens.
It’s not a traditional hostel but appeals to families traveling on a budget since there is security on-site, baby gates, and family rooms available.
“I liked everything about the property, the location was very good, just a 5-minute walk from the Medina, but outside of the bustle, so it was very quiet. The rooms were clean and well-maintained. The breakfast was delicious and with a beautiful view of the blue city on their terrace. All in all a great stay and will be back.”
Inesa (read more reviews now)
There’s even a lovely little picnic area for you to relax in and a fantastic rooftop terrace bathed in natural light. This is where you’ll dig into a delicious complimentary breakfast paired with beautiful views of the city.
Additionally, wonderfully decorated rooms come outfitted with an en-suite bathroom, free Wifi, fluffy towels, and soft bed linens.
Just don’t forget to visit the communal lounge since this is a great spot to meet other like-minded travelers. Also, ask for extra blankets in the winter since the rooms can be chilly.
Yes, some of the furniture does need a little bit of TLC and the Wifi can be slow. But, it’s fine if you’re only here for a few nights.
8. Dar Antonio

⭐️ Rating: 9.0/10.0 (264 Reviews) Price: $32.00 per night 📍Location: Garnata n36, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on booking.com now!
Named for the insanely friendly and helpful owner, Dar Antonio is a your go-to spot in Chefchaouen if you want to stay in a riad that is priced like a hostel.
No, there aren’t any dorms here. But, Moroccan-style rooms are clean and super comfy. The shared bathrooms are also well-cared for and have lots of hot water.
“Antonio was the best host ever! He took the time to make sure I felt safe in Chefchaouen, provided insight, and tips to navigate the city. The place was tidy, in the heart of the Blue Pearl and beautifully adorned. I will miss the rooftop haven but will be back for a longer stay. Thank you, Antonio!”

You can even enjoy the rooftop terrace before getting insider tips about the area from the owner himself.
However, what I am not a fan of is the very basic wifi (Mbps). You’ll also have to pay an extra $3.00 for a Continental Breakfast which is okay but not stellar.
Oh, and you have to pay extra for heat in the winter. Yeah, I think that is kind of crazy (and not in the good way).
9. Riad Dar Chama
⭐️ Rating: 9.0/10.0 (123 Reviews) Price: $62.00 per night 📍Location: Sidi Sellam, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on booking.com now!
Recently opened in December of 2023, this enchanting riad is a place where you can enjoy amenities like a 24-hour reception desk, laundry service, luggage storage, and good wifi.
Unfortunately, the rooms don’t have much of a Moroccan vibe about them. But, they are quite large and feature wooden beamed ceilings that give the space a rustic feel.
“Our stay couldn’t have been better! Kind stuff, lovely room, clean, aircon, central, delicate Moroccan design, kind served breakfast, laundry service, comfy beds, safe and guarded parking place nearby. Gladly book again when in Chauen another time.”

Then, after a long day sightseeing in Chefchaouen, watch a show on your flatscreen TV with your fave streaming service. You can also relax in a spacious seating area and warm up in a bathrobe after using the walk-in shower.
But, what I love the most is that you get free chocolates AND cookies in your room. You can also opt for either a complimentary Continental Breakfast or an a la carte breakfast – both of which are delicious.
Yeah, the only real inconvenience is that there isn’t anywhere to hang your clothes. But, let’s be real, how many days are you gonna spend in Chefchaouen? Yeah, exactly my point.
10. Dar Zman
⭐️ Rating: 8.1/10.0 (727 Reviews) Price: $32.00 per night 📍Location: Av Hassan II Bab El Hammar, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on booking.com now!
This hostel in Chefchaouen is a great option if you’re on a budget and are looking for private, individually decorated rooms with en-suite bathrooms.
Like many of the other places to stay in Chefchaouen on this list, Dar Zman is well-located in the Medina, has a nice rooftop terrace with sweeping views of the city, and even offers guests complimentary breakfast with their stay.
“The riad is small but beautiful they have all you need to rest and got the road even we stayed just one night they kept our stuff for many our to visit the city and the breakfast so good great value for the price.”
Edel (read more reviews now)
You can also enjoy free snacks throughout the day as well as free Wifi (not great), heating, A/C, TVs, and toiletries in one of just eight private rooms. Yup, talk about individual attention.
The staff are also really helpful but the rooms are fairly basic. It’s pretty much a bed with a draping curtain and that’s it.
But, it’s a good hostel in Chefchaouen if you need a break from dorm life and a good night’s sleep.
11. Dar Dadicilef
⭐️ Rating: 9.3/10.0 (937 Reviews) Price: $43.00 per night 📍Location: Derb Hadri, Quartier Souika, Souika, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on Booking.com now!
TBH this hotel in Chefchaouen is a bit expensive for anyone backpacking in Morocco. But, it’s a good option if you’re looking for a bit of a splurge.
First of all, Dar Dadicilef has great wifi (66 Mbps), which is essential for someone like me who works on the road. They also have a charming little garden for you to relax in as well as a terrace and ample luggage storage.
Breakfast is also included and will be served to you in their lovely on-site garden.
“Super nice stay! The staff is super kind, the location and the place are amazing. We visited in January and we had the possibility to enjoy the fireplace. The terrace is full of board games! It’s a good spot for smart work too ;)”
Mariaeva (read more reviews now)
FYI, you’ll be super happy if you get room 6. I mean, the room is gigantic and you get your own tub to relax in. Plus, the room is so quiet that you won’t even be able to hear the call to prayer.
Yes, the rooms are a bit plain and I doubt you’ll be Instagramming it up. But, they are modern and definitely have a cool Moroccan vibe.
Additionally, anyone visiting in the winter will love that they have an awesome fireplace for you to warm up by. So, if you want to relax after hiking in Chefchaouen and are looking for great value then this place is it.
12. Casa Amina
⭐️ Rating: 9.1/10.0 (683 Reviews) Price: $92.00 per night 📍Location: Quartier Souika, Dreb Chebli °6 Chefchaouen, Souika, 91000 Chefchaouen Details: Read more on Booking.com now!
I’m gonna be real with you, this lovely bed and breakfast is a total splurge if you’re on a tight budget.
But, you know what they say? You get what you pay for. And this place is STUNNING. Yeah, the rooms are beautifully decorated and have a modern Moroccan vibe to them.
Casa Amina is also well-located in the Medina and serves up a top-notch breakfast for just $5.00 per person. Yeah, I hate that they charge you extra but breakfast is really good and be sure to try the fig jam.
There’s also free Wifi throughout the property and the views from the roof are incredible.
“We loved the interior and exterior of the property. The detail thought through to create the space was absolutely beautiful. It was a hidden gem, especially the view from the rooftop.”

Other highlights include heating, 24-hour front desk service, and private bathrooms with temperamental showers that rapidly change the water temperature. Oussama is also a great owner who is always on-hand to help you out.
It’s one of the many places to stay that makes Chefchoauen worth visiting.
