If you’re visiting Northern Morocco then you may want to try one of the best cooking classes Tangier has to offer.
These classes are a great way to learn about Moroccan food as you spend time whipping up incredible dishes like tajine, couscous, harira, pastilla, and more.
Just be prepared to spend a lot of money on these cooking classes since I found them to be A LOT more expensive than the cooking classes in Marrakech and the cooking classes in Essaouira.
If you can, wait and do a cooking class in one of those Moroccan cities since the prices are a lot cheaper and I enjoyed the classes a bit more.
See, I live in Morocco and have tried a ton of different cooking classes since I”ve been here (aka since early 2023). I like them because I get to learn how to make new dishes that I can serve to my Moroccan partner.
I would ask his amazing mom how to cook (she is the best cook ever) but she doesn’t speak English and that makes things a lot more difficult.
So, I opt to try local cooking classes instead. They are great way to explore the souks of Tangier and learn more about local culture as you head back to someone’s home and cook with their family.
TBH, the classes where I visit someone’s home and chat with them while I prepare homemade Moroccan food are my fave. I am just not into cooking classes conducted by large companies since they feels a little less authentic.
So, keeping that in mind, here are my picks for the best cooking classes in Tangier right now. Use this epic local guide and make the most out of your time in Tangier.

“This experience was fantastic! Bilal and Sana were amazing hosts, and it was such an authentic experience cooking in their house. They were so fun, and the food was incredibly delicious. It was great to learn about the Medina and the pharmacy on our walk to his house from the port, and he even showed us a beautiful spot to watch the sunset after the cooking class. Recommend to anyone looking for a great experience in Tangier.”

“We were taken on a tour through the medina farmers market by Balil who was enthusiastic and very knowledgable about Tangier and the history of the area. On returning to his home we met his lovely wife who introduced us to Morrocan cooking in her own kitchen. The whole trip was delightful and all extremely tasty! We all could not recommend Balil and his lovely family more highly.”

Overall, Anwar’s class is nice but not the best class I have ever done. Sure, you’ll typically get to enjoy delicious Moroccan salad as well as a tajine, mint tea, and kebabs.
However, you really just chop vegetables and don’t do/learn much about Moroccan cooking. You’re really just there to share a meal with a lovely local family. So, if you’re okay with that then this will be a good cooking class for you.

“We had a lovely dinner as part of this class! Our host was kind and happy to explain the process of cooking. The completed dish was already prepared, cooking-show style, since Moroccan food often takes many hours to make, but we prepped our dish as if we were going to steam it for hours and then immediately went to the table. Dessert and tea were also included and delicious. Overall I’d happily recommend this to anybody who is interested!”

The benefit of booking this private tour is that you’ll receive more personalized attention as you create a menu filled with Moroccan salad, tajine/coucous, mint tea, and a tradtional Moroccan sweet.
Therefore, you’ll be able to expertly prepare tradtional Moroccan tea and tajine/couscous by the end of this class.
Overall, I like how interactive this class is. You’re not just sharing a meal but you really do get to participate and learn about the actual cooking process.
Just remember that if you choose to make couscous then the dish will already be pre-made since it takes a really long time to cook. However, you’ll still get to prep the dish and learn how to cook it in one of the best cities in Morocco.
Conclusion
That wraps up this guide to the best cooking classes in Tangier. I hope you found my tips useful and now know which class is right for you.
If it were me I would opt for the cooking class/day tour of Tangier. This way you can quickly and easily enjoy all that this safe city in Morocco has to offer. Yup, Tangier is super safe and you should have nothing to worry about during your trip.
If you can, opt to visit in the fall since this is the best time to visit Tangier. This is when the weather is best and when you can enjoy Cap Spartel/Hercules caves without freezing/sweating to death.
