Looking for affordable riads in Marrakech? If so then you have come to the right place.

I live in Morocco and have been splitting my time between Essaouira and Marrakech since January of 2023.

So, I am always on the lookout for budget places to stay in Marrakech since I live here and don’t want to go broke spending money on a fancy, smancy riads.

But, I also don’t want to stay in a total dump that smells like a septic tank. So, that’s where this list of budget riads in Marrakech comes in mighty handy.

I have stayed in or toured all of these properties. So, I can vouch for their awesomeness and the quality of service offered by the managers and sometimes the owners themselves.

Therefore, these are the best places to stay in Marrakech if you want to get the most value for the money that you spend.

Besides, who doesn’t want to stay in an authentic Moroccan riad? I mean, this unique style of architecture is found ONLY in Morocco.

It’s also just cool to stay in a traditional Moroccan building where all of the rooms surround an open courtyard that is filled with tile mosaics, fountains, gardens, and sometimes even a plunge pool.

But, nothing is perfect. So, I’ve tried to include any drawbacks associated with staying at these cheap riads in Marrakech. This way, you can make the best decision possible and find the perfect place to stay in Marrakech.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Riad Stella Cadente for the very first time and I think it is probably one of my favorite riads in Marrakech.

First of all, the decor is stunning. I love that the rooms are individually decorated and that you see this chic, ultra-modern Moroccan, Majorelle blue decor everywhere you turn.

Additionally, all the rooms come fully equipped with wifi, free toiletries, bathrobes, spacious bathrooms, and large, comfy beds.

If you can, upgrade to the larger room. You’ll have a lot more space and will actually be able to chill while you enjoy the stunning decor.

The staff are also super lovely and were more than happy to help me with anything I needed. Plus, breakfast was divine and complimentary.

So, I got to dig into a wide assortment of yummy treats like cake, muffins, mssemen, harsha, beghrir, and fresh Moroccan mint tea.

I loved that it was freshly prepared and served atop their magnificent blue rooftop. The views weren’t epic, but I did get to eat surrounded by verdant plants, blue Moroccan lanterns, and exquisite blue tiles.

Plus, the epic location near Bacha Coffee is super convenient and I am so stoked that they will be getting a rooftop pool soon. Yeah, they have only been open for 9 months and are already making a splash.

Located just outside the walls of the Medina, in between Badi and Bahia Palace, Riad Bayti offers individually decorated, modern Moroccan rooms with en-suite bathrooms made of traditional Tadellakt.

All rooms surround a quiet courtyard with a small outdoor pool and offer access to a lavish rooftop terrace outfitted with day beds and comfy sun loungers.

This is overall probably one of my favorite riads in Marrakech. It’s quiet, staff are super helpful, and you are well-located near Tinsmith’s Square. So, go now and thank me later since this is a superb tip for traveling in Morocco.

You’ll also want to get a Marrakech SIM card so that you can stay connected during your trip. Another good thing to have is a travel adaptor so you can use the plugs in Morocco.

Local Tip: Remember to book your room well in advance starting in Marrakech in April since this will be peak season.

Riad Le Jardin d”Abdou is a luxurious, 5-star property that is a bit off the beaten path. So, you’ll be about a 10-minute walk from Bahia Palace and maybe a 30-minute walk from Koutoubia Mosque.

Personally, I love the location since it affords me a bit of peace and quiet while remaining in the center of the city.

The property is also just super luxurious and features grand, white archways that surround a central courtyard with a charming fountain and a nice plunge pool.

What I love about this place is that it’s not smack dab in the middle of the Medina. Yes, it’s well-located near Koutoubia Mosque, but you’re still a smidge outside the Medina.

Therefore, you’re able to escape some of the chaos of the Medina while still being very centrally located in one of the safest cities in Morocco. However, that location means that the morning call to prayer can be a bit loud and wake you up.

However, I love that Riad Rose Meryam has the feel of a very traditional riad. So, get ready to relax in a charming courtyard with a small fountain, black and white tile floors, Berber rugs, and doorways with vibrant green accents.

“The breakfast was perfect with different food for everyone. At the end everybody ate everything 😁 We ate on the terrace twice with a wonderful view of Marrakech. The place is about a 10min walk from the Jamaa El-fna. We spontaneously washed our clothes for 60dh and it was no problem at all. The staff is very friendly, kind and protective. There are also tile mosaics on the walls that you can marvel at before heading into a well-appointed room with a private bathroom, a shower/bath, wifi, and complimentary toiletries.

Yeah, rooms here are nice and modern but still have a charming local feel to them. The staff are also great about providing expert local recommendations.

Additionally, a delicious homemade breakfast (eggs, bread, cheese, olives, etc.) is included with your stay and you can enjoy it atop their spacious terrace.

The space is beautifully decorated with red walls, sun loungers, wicker lamps, and thatched roofs, making it an ideal place to hang out.

Just be sure to bring extra cash since there are some additional fees that you’ll need to pay for upon arrival. Most of the staff also doesn’t speak English and I kind of wished there was a kettle in the room.

Local Tip: Try and ask for a room on the second floor since they offer a bit more privacy. You’re also well located so that you can enjoy the top walking tours in Marrakech.

Well-located inside the Medina, Riad Porte Royal offers guests a quiet escape from the chaos of the city and at an affordable price too.

Seriously, I dare you to sit around their stunning, tile-mosaic plunge pool and NOT feel more relaxed since this is one of the best Marrakech riads with a pool.

I also love that the rooms here are big, light, and modern, with nice Moroccan touches to remind you that you are still in a foreign country.

Just don’t forget to use the fantastic rooftop where you can sit on a sun lounger (or in the shade) and soak up some sunshine. The wifi is also wicked fast, making it a breeze to stay connected and do work if necessary.

All in all, this is a great budget riad in Marrakech. Adam is an amazing host and does great job making sure that all the guests here feel safe in Marrakech.

Just know that this place can be difficult to find and is only accessible by foot since it is hidden away in the Medina.

This is another cheap riad in Marrakech that is well-located near Le Jardin Secret. Some of the rooms are a bit dark for my taste (yeah, I am just not a fan of an all-black bathroom), but they are big and include spacious bedrooms and bathrooms.

Rooms at Riad Kerdouss are also well-outfitted with Modern Moroccan decor, a wardrobe, a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a terrace (just in some rooms).

“The riad is charming and cosy, everything is nice in every detail, you can feel the authenticity of the place. Sophie is a great host, helpful and always available for good suggestions (don’t hesitate to ask :)). Beside all this, we really appreciated breakfast, which is gorgeous: rich, homemade and different every morning. There is also a nice rooftop, that unfortunately we didn’t use so much because of the weather, but it would have been a nice place to rest and chill.”

The open central courtyard is also lovely and has chic, modern decor that includes a wealth of plants that really add to the ambiance of the space.

Additionally, breakfast is included and features yogurt, eggs, bread, baghrir, fresh fruit, tea, coffee, OJ, etc. I like that it changes daily and always features something different so you don’t get bored.

But, my fave part of the entire place? The hot tub on the roof. It sits on this beautiful terrace with arched brickwork and lots of beautiful potted cacti.

Yeah, this jacuzzi was easily the highlight of my visit, but I also liked relaxing on the rooftop lounge chairs. Sophie is also an incredibly dedicated host and always goes out of her way to make sure that guests enjoy an amazing stay.

7. Riad Matham

Well-located near the Marrakech Museum and Ben Youssef Madrasa, Riad Matham is a fun, relaxed riad from the 16th century with seven low-key, but gorgeous, rooms for you to choose from.

They all have a light, bright, minimalist- Moroccan style that is very warm and inviting, with big comfy beds.

Some even come outfitted with a sitting room and are located around a white, central courtyard with a small outdoor pool and overhanging palm trees.

Guests are weclome to hang out in a warm and inviting living room that also has a fireplace. You can then head up to the terrace and dig into a delicious breakfast.

“The property was clean. Tastefully decorated. It was dreamy and awesome. I can never forget when I asked Hicham a favor to transfer my luggage to another Riad after my trip to Merzhouga and he immediately replied and within minutes it was done. This is exceptional customer service! The ladies who prepared the breakfast were so nice and served the delicious breakfast with a smile! Massage was great too!”

The women who make breakfast are super nice and do a great job of serving up hot and fresh Moroccan food that you’ll love. This is also a great place to relax and take in epic views of the Medina.

Additionally, Hicham is just a super kind and professional person who strives to immediately meet all of your needs. He even arranged a special early morning breakfast for me so that I could do an early day trip from Marrakech.

Overall, an all-around great place to stay that stands out because of the exceptional service. So, when you visit, say hi to the resident tortoise for me! Such a cutie.

8. Riad Koutoubia Royal

If you want to be at the center of it all (aka a 9-minute walk from Jemaa el Fna Square) then Riad Koutoubia Royal might just be the most affordable riad in Marrakech for you.

TBH, the rooms on the first floor are a bit dark, but they are HUGE. You also have next-level authentic Moroccan vibes everywhere you turn. So, if you’re searching for an authentic Moroccan riad then this is the place to go.

“The location was perfect, close to the square and very close to the supermarket. The staff were lovely and the manager Jalil was extremely helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely come back again.”

Spacious rooms feature large beds, and include private bathrooms with bathrobes, hair dryers, and free toiletries. Rooms also come with wifi and a complimentary breakfast that is served from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.

The breakfast is nice but a bit too bread-heavy for me since it only includes baghrir, pastries, and msemen.

However, I loved hanging out on the rooftop terrace since there are nice tile tables up there and lovely views of Koutoubia Mosque. Yeah, there are two terraces and they are MASSIVE.

Overall this is one of my favorite riads if you’re looking for great value for your money. The staff are also really nice and very welcoming. You are also right on a main street and can be dropped off right at the door of the hotel.

I also heard one guest say that the staff went out at 10:00 pm at night and actually picked up medication for them, which is super nice.

9. Riad Shambala

Founded in 2011 by the owner Carlos, Riad Shambala sits on the outskirts of the Medina and was designed using only traditional Moroccan building methods.

As a result, you’ll find Tadelakt plaster (concrete hand-polished stone), Bejmat (baked clay), and authentic Moroccan tiles used throughout the riad.

“The staff is very gentil. always eager to help us and guide us. I 100% recommend this Riad. the breakfast was traditional and good. The common area was so chill and calm, a good place to work or read.”

Rooms all feature A/C, wifi, bathrooms with free toiletries, a continental breakfast (served in the dining room), and have doors that open out onto a lovely patio that leads you to a small plunge pool.

FYI, the pool is really small and is just meant for a quick dip and not actual swimming.

There is also an amazing rooftop terrace where you can sit on a sun lounger and enjoy views of the most northern parts of the Medina.

So, while this budget riad in Marrakech is a bit removed from the central Medina (like a 15 or 20-minute walk), that’s actually a good thing since you’ll get a much-needed break from the frantic pace of life in the souks of Marrakech.

The staff are also just really lovely and happy to help you in any way they can. Just watch out for scammers in the area who try to make money by “bringing you” to the riad.

Just step inside Riad Soundouss and you’ll be impressed by a gorgeous outdoor courtyard filled with potted plants, large round tables, a charming fountain, and intricate tile work across the floor.

Rooms are also light and bright and well-outfitted with tile mosaics, painted ceilings, Moroccan handicrafts, a/c, private bathrooms, free toiletries, and seating areas with an LCD TV.

Another highlight was the awesome rooftop. It has this shaded area with lattice fencing covered in vines. The vines have all these flowers growing ouf of them so the ambiance is next level.

I also love the views and enjoy the feel of the roof in the evening when the lights come on. So, relax on a sun lounger and soak up the sun at one of the best budget riads in Marrakech.

Special Note: The last time I was here the man behind the front desk was extremely rude and very unhelpful and dismissive to me and my partner. I hope you have a better experience.

Well-located near Le Jardin Secret, Riad Dar Yassine is a very affordable riad in Marrakech and is perfect for anyone looking for a high-end stay but on a budget.

Yes, rooms feel a bit boxy and plain. However, they feature cool light fixtures, large beds, fun tile floors, and spacious bathrooms that come with large showers with all these tiles in lots of neat patterns.

Most of all, the two young men that worked there were very friendly and helpful – and we perceived it to be sincere. The wifi is not the fastest (39 mbps), but the central courtyard is lovely and gives you all the traditional Moroccan riad vibes you could want. Everything is also super clean and there is a nice rooftop terrace to hang out on.

You’ll also find flat-screen TVs, bathrobes, slippers, bidets, a/c, and even balconies in some rooms. Additionally, breakfast is complimentary and includes baghrir, OJ, cake, bread, cheese, tea, etc.

You just might want to add earplugs to your Marrakech packing list since the surrounding area can be a touch noisy.

But, the real highlight of your stay is the kindness of staff like Hassan and Rachid, who always go out of their way to make guests feel like they are part of the family. It’s not super luxurious but the staff make up for it.

Located 10 minutes from Jemaa el Fna Square, Riad Ta’achchaqa is a chill place where you can stay inside a historic riad with five well-decorated rooms that offer air-conditioning and free wifi.

Yes, the rooms are a bit narrow. However, they are well-decorated with modern, Moroccan decor, come with large (comfy) beds, and have amazing tiled bathrooms that I can’t get enough of.

They also come well-stocked with towels, bath robes, soap, and shower gel. So, no need to add a lot of toiletries to your Marrakech packing list.

“Everything about our stay here was fantastic. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, the Riad was beautiful, the breakfasts were delicious. We chose to eat dinner in the riad one evening and this was delicious also and even used the riads Hammam/massage facility which was very relaxing. Overall, it’s a quiet, affordable (but luxurious feeling) riad where you can enjoy some peace, even though you are still in the Medina. Sure, it’s a little hard to find. However, you won’t have to worry about getting woken up in the middle of the night.

Local Tip: Do NOT follow the directions given to you by Google maps. It will take you to the wrong place and you will never find the riad. Definitely give them a call and ask them where to go.

Honestly, I don’t know how this riad in Marrakech is so cheap. First of all, the rooms are stunning and you will be staying right near Dar El Bacha (you can have a taxi drop you off here). So, it’s very conveniently located.

Rooms at Riad El Youssoufi also feature GIANT beds, colorful linen blankets, A/C, wifi (that actually works), en-suite bathrooms (with a shower and complimentary toiletries), and arched doorways that feel very Middle Eastern.

All bedrooms also open up onto the riad’s patio and have a charming little seating area where you can hang out.

There’s also an amazing central courtyard with a cute little outdoor pool, giant palm trees, and authentic Moroccan tilework (zellige tiles) on the floors.

This is one of the best hostels in Marrakech that doubles as an affordable riad. It is just a 10-minute walk from Jemaa el Fna Square and is filled with beautiful stained glass windows.

In fact, the property once belonged to a local Moroccan family and now has stunning black and white tile floors that embody the beauty of a traditional riad, but at a very reasonable price.

Rooms are also spacious and newly renovated, with 4, 6, and 8-bed dorms to choose from. Yes, the rooms are super basic and they kind of just throw people in there.

But, they have nice Moroccan decor and come with solid wooden bunk beds that won’t shake when you climb to the top bunk.

I also love that you can store your luggage in roll-out lockers underneath the beds. It’s a nice touch that makes the rooms feel more spacious.

Real talk? The decor here is amazing since the stained glass windows and overall design of this place make you feel like you’re staying in a traditional Moroccan riad.

The central courtyard also has this amazing green plunge pool set within a garden. So, you feel like you are relaxing in a cute little pond, not a pool.

But, the best part? You’re like a minute away from Jemaa el Fna Square and also have several additional terraces where you can chill, soak up the sun, and meet other cool people.

“It was a pretty riad, which was candlelit by night. The bedrooms were cleaned each day and the sheets replaced. The rooftop is spacious and you can chat to others, sunbathe or get on with some work up there. The staff are very, very hardworking and attentive – they were helpful with everything we asked of them (shout out Mustafa and Yunis)! Good location and value is decent.”

Afterward, pick some fruit from their indoor garden and head back to a 14, 12, 8, or 6-bed dorm. TBH, the dorms aren’t the greatest and come with pretty lame metal bunkbeds.

You also have to keep the door wide open or risk getting heat stroke in the room. But, you do get a small locker for your valuables and the staff are lovely (Mustafa is the man).

Equity Point is one of those cool hostels that feels like a luxury riad. So, while you won’t pay much for your 4 to 10-person dorm room, you will stay inside a stunning, white, arched building.

The entire structure surrounds an amazing central courtyard with a pool that is open from April through October.

Don’t get too excited though because the pool is hella cold and no one really uses it. But, you will be well-located near the main square and can stay inside snazzy, ultra-modern bunk beds that look like private cubicles (they’re really nice).

You’ll even get an en-suite bathroom and can relax in a wide variety of chic common rooms where you can meet lots of rad people as you solo travel Marrakech. The rooftop is also large and a great place to take in sweeping city views.

The only negative is that breakfast isn’t included and costs 54 Dirhams ($5.40) for it. Yeah, it’s not the best so I’d opt to just get brunch in Marrakech instead.
