15 Best Rooftop Restaurants in Marrakech

If you’re visiting Marrakech for the first time, or the 10,000th time, then you’re in for a treat since there are many rooftop restaurants in Marrakech to choose from.

See, the Medina in Marrakech is a protected, UNESCO World Heritage Site. As a result, local laws dictate the type of buildings that people can and cannot construct within the old town.

So, you won’t find any giant skyscrapers here. They would destroy the overall vibe and authenticity of the Medina, thereby detracting from the magical, old-world allure of this place.

Instead, you’ll find a lot of three and four-story buildings that are home to stunning Marrakech rooftops where you can enjoy insane views of the Medina both day and night.

Therefore, if you’re a sucker for stunning panoramic views then you are gonna LOVE visiting Marrakech and admiring some of the best views in the city.

I mean, there are so many rooftops in Marrakech that you’ll find one on just about any building you visit. However, not all Marrakech rooftops are created equally. Some are super overrated and crowded while others have kind of mediocre views.

Now, since I live in Morocco, I have lost count of the number of times I have visited Marrakech. Therefore, I am gonna share my insider picks for the best rooftop restaurants In Marrakech with you.

This way you know where to go to get a good view, sip on amazing drinks, and eat delicious food.

1. Nomad

The good news? The views from the Nomad rooftop are awesome. The bad news? This place is PACKED with tourists since it is well-known and often listed as one of the best things to do in Marrakech.

I have been to Nomad many times and the food is good, but not great. TBH, I have paid much less for much better food that was served at more local restaurants.

But, this place has a chic, modern vibe about it that appeals to tourists. Yeah, you deffo won’t find locals here since dishes cost upwards of 140 Dirhams ($14.00) each.

If you want to sit on the roof and admire sweeping views of the Medina then you MUST make a reservation. You legit will NOT be able to get in otherwise.

I have also ordered the espresso (good) and the vegetarian couscous which I thought was good, but not great. I also was surprised the menu was small and they couldn’t give me things like a vegetarian tagine.

However, the staff were lovely and the service was FAST. I mean, the place was packed and I think I got my food in 15 minutes. So, yeah, I was impressed by that.

It’s also worth noting that you can’t just head to the roof for a drink. You are required to order a full meal if you want to chill on one of the best rooftops in Marrakech.

All in all, I think this place is nice but a bit overrated if you’re looking for a lunch place in Marrakech. So, stop by if you are DYING to visit but skip it and go somewhere else if you are just looking for a nice view.

They also have lots of plant-based dishes. So, this makes for a nice vegetarian place to eat in Marrakech.

Also be sure you know what not to wear in Marrakech before you stop by.

2. El Fenn Rooftop Bar

Easily one of the best things to do at night in Marrakech, Ell Fenn Rooftop Bar is a stunning place where you can find awesome day beds on the roof and lounge around a small pool.

There’s also sleek red patio furniture and stunning green-tile floors that make this Marrakech rooftop super photogenic.

However, you’ll spend big money here since this rooftop is associated with one of the best boutique hotels in North Africa.

I think it’s worth it though since the views are incredible and you’ll be in awe of the Atlas Mountains, the Medina, and Koutoubia Mosque in the background.

It’s also a great place to watch the sunset or party the night away since a live DJ plays awesome music in the background.

As a bonus, you’ll love that the bar menu is available all day and that you can get amazing drinks like the El Fenn Margarita with hibiscus for 160 Dirhams ($16.00) each.

You can also nibble on awesome bar bites like fried calamari, popcorn chicken, and roasted cauliflower tacos.

The one negative about this rooftop bar in Marrakech is that the pool is only open to hotel guests and not the general public.But, it’s a great place to hang out before hitting up some Marrakech nightclubs.

Local Tip: They have a nice little shop on-site where you can stop and look for upscale Moroccan souvenirs.

3. Cafe des Epices

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe des Epices and consider it one of the top cafes in Marrakech. First of all, the food is delicious. I ordered the Berber Omelet and it was everything I wanted and more.

FYI, I have also heard really good things about the hummus and chicken tagine.

Plus, the price was super reasonable since I only paid 40 Dirhams ($4.00) for my meal. I also thought the service was fast and efficient especially since they were PACKED when I stopped by.

So, while this rooftop restaurant in Marrakech is very crowded, especially at lunch, I think it’s 100% worth it since the food is delicious, the price is great, they accept credit cards, and the views of Place des Epices are awesome.

If you want to avoid a long wait for a table on the roof, stop by in the morning and enjoy one of the best breakfasts in Marrakech.

This place is also super chill and not an uber-fancy rooftop in Marrakech. So, I wouldn’t stop by if you’re looking for a high-end spot. But they serve solid food if you’re wondering where to eat in Marrakech.

4. Atay Cafe

Well-located near Ben Youssef Madrasa in the Medina, the rooftop of Atay Cafe offers sweeping views of the Medina and a beautiful local mosque.

There are many different levels to the cafe so be sure to head to the top for epic views (like 4 or 5 flights of stairs), especially at sunset.

Additionally, this cafe in Marrakech is well-priced (expect to pay between 60 and 85 Dirhams per entree) and features fun, Moroccan-inspired decor that will add a bit of allure to any rooftop photos you take.

During your visit, you can try a variety of African and Mediterranean dishes like chicken skewers, couscous, and chicken tajine.

The service is also great (so be sure to tip in Marrakech here) and I found the iced tea to be super refreshing. Plus, you can sit on the roof, even during hotter summer months, since they spray a mist in the air to keep you cool.

5. Cafe Clock

Does Cafe Clock have a rooftop with the best views of Marrakech? Not really. The views are okay but nothing legendary since this cafe is located near the Kasbah, right by the Mellah.

However, the food is good and well-priced. I typically order the Berber Omelet for 55 Dirhams ($5.50) since it is awesome and comes with OJ and coffee or tea.

Meanwhile, my partner loves the pancake stack and pairs it with one of their epic spiced cappuccinos with lots of cinnamon and cocoa powder on top (so good).

TBH, a lot of people come here for the camel burger since it is good, and eating it doubles as one of the most unique things to do in Marrakech.

Plus, this is an all-around great place to chill since the decor has a fun and funky Moroccan vibe that I adore. I have visited multiple times and have also visited their outposts in Fes and Chefchaouen.

That’s mainly because this place is more than a cafe. It is a neat cultural center where you can enroll in cooking classes, calligraphy classes, baking classes, and music classes.

You can also listen to live music nightly and attend fun storytelling/movie nights too.

6. Ksar Kasbah

This stunning riad with eleven uniquely decorated rooms sits near the Kasbah. It is home to an amazing spa and a stunning central courtyard with a lovely pool that is surrounded by epic white lounge chairs.

I also love their charming dining area which is filled with several cozy white tables/chairs that surround a small pool.

However, the real highlight of your visit is a trip to an enchanting rooftop where you can enjoy avocado toast with fresh OJ or a lovely lemon-flavored chicken tajine.

You can also dig into a homemade breakfast of lemon poppyseed cake, eggs, and Moroccan pancakes that are served to you beneath their amazing on-site pergola.

Just don’t leave without ordering their famous almond milk pastilla for dessert. It’s seriously next-level amazing.

All in all, the views are stunning and I love that this spot isn’t nearly as well-known as some of the other Marrakech rooftop restaurants on this list.

7. Kabana Marrakech

I love coming to Kabana Marrakech for brunch since brunch is served daily here from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The last time I visited I ordered the Shakshuka with avocado, spinach, harissa, and feta and it was amazing. it was made with three eggs and served to me in a giant skillet with a small basket of bread.

Yeah, I didn’t walk away hungry. My partner also loved the Tiramisu French toast and declared that this was his new fave brunch spot in Marrakech.

Yes, entrees are a bit expensive at 140 Dirhams each ($14.00), but you are paying for the amazing ambiance and the gorg views of the Koutoubia Mosque.

Plus, you can get a wide variety of alcoholic drinks since this rooftop sits just outside the Medina and right across the street from Koutoubia Mosque.

TBH, I wish they would cut back some of the trees that obscure the view of the mosque. But, other than that I just love this rooftop. The decor is amazing and there is ample shade.

The only thing I am not a fan of is that you need to use a QR code to access the menu. However, that alone would not stop me from coming back to one of the best Marrakech restaurants with alcohol.

8. La Pergola

Brought you by Riad Monceau, this rooftop jazz bar features live jazz performances by Black Experience every night from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. It is well-located near Jemaa El Fna Square and just a super fun place to hang out in the evening.

If you head to the rooftop you’ll find a vibrant patio that makes you feel like you are attending a sleek garden party. Grab a seat at one of the small tables scattered throughout this oasis of greenery and enjoying sweeping views of the Medina.

You can also indulge in delicious libations created by expert mixologists, like the Love in the Orange Grove cocktail, the Morocco Mule, the Berber Mojito, or a fabulous glass of wine that was made right in Morocco.

You’ll also love the amazing service, the fun decor (think multi-color umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, and delicious menu items like the Black Burger.

Local Tip: Stop by for happy hour everyday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and enjoy one of the best places to drink in Marrakech.

9. L’Adresse Cafe and Restaurant – Jemaa al Fna Square

I love this cafe and restaurant overlooking Jemaa al Fna Square. We haven’t eaten any food here but we like to stop by for a coffee and watch the sunset over the square.

It’s one of the best rooftop restaurants in Marrakech since it has seats that sit along a bar that directly overlooks the entire square.

Just be sure to get here early since these seats are very popular and fill up fast. We were here around 5:00 pm and had to wait for seats to open up.

Do let the staff know you’re waiting since some people like to sneak in and steal seats. But, your waiter will put a stop to this if he or she knows you are waiting.

All in all, the decor is lovely, the coffee is nice, the staff is amazing, and they even have a second location in Gueliz.

However, feel free to visit any restaurant along the perimeter of the square since they all offer amazing views of the square at night. I mean, they are all about the same in terms of price, ambiance, and quality of food.

10. Le Jardin

The first time I went to this popular restaurant in the Medina I fell in love. See, I was staying at Central House and stopped by since it was nearby and a girl in my dorm recommended it.

I ordered the egg tajine and thought it was amazing and well-priced.

FYI, it’s just a Berber omelet but was delish and served with lots of bread. Plus, the decor here is amazing since tables are scattered across this amazing patio that is lined with an array of verdant plants.

Yeah, you feel like you are dining in this awesome secret garden that is hidden away inside an old riad from the 1960s. Therefore, it definitely feels like one of the most romantic places to eat in Marrakech

There’s even a pop-up boutique on-site where you can shop for cool souvenirs in Marrakech before heading to their lovely rooftop for epic views of the city.

TBH, their rooftop is very new, and I would visit even if you can’t sit on the roof since their dining room on the ground floor is lovely and has this wonderful botanical feel to it. Deffo is an all-around great place to relax and enjoy a meal.

The also serve a lot of plant-based food, making this an epic vegan spot in Marrakech.

11. Le Grand Balcon du Café Glacier

TBH I am not a huge fan of the food here and just stopped by for the photo ups and a Coke Zero. After all, this cafe is well-located in Jemaa al Fna Square and allows you to enjoy insane sunset views of Koutoubia Mosque.

I also love that the roof has these charming round tables with yellow and blue tile mosaics. Yeah, these tables add to the awesomeness of any photos you take.

This place is popular though, so try to visit around 2 hours before sunset. This way you don’t have to worry and can snag a table before it gets dark.

Local Tip: Cafe de France is another spot in Jemaa al Fna Square that offers you spectacular sunset views.

12. Cafe Medina Rouge

This is THE place to go if you want a killer view of Koutoubia Mosque at sunset. I also love that this rooftop has a nice, relaxed atmosphere that makes you never want to leave.

I also like the fast and efficient service and the lovely staff. Additionally, it’s one of those places where the food is good. Just don’t order the gazpacho since it is not great.

Instead, order things like the chicken tajine and the chicken pastilla. It’s also nice that the staff take the time to go over the menu with you so that you order something you’ll actually enjoy.

Plus, entrees are pretty reasonable and you’ll pay between 60 Dirhams ($6.50) and 85 Dirhams ($8.50) for most menu items.

13. My Kechmara

If you want to escape the chaos of the Medina then head to Gueliz and enjoy amazing Western food at one of the best rooftop restaurants in Marrakech.

See, My Kechmara is known for it’s awesome tapas and amazing tacos. Sure, they serve decent Moroccan food. But, where else are you gonna find epic vegetarian tacos, killer burata, and killer crispy goat cheese with honey?

Truth be told though, we usually just come here for dessert and a drink. The last time my partner and I were here he ordered a caramel creme brulle and it was lovely.

They also have an awesome happy hour, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm daily, where you can rad drinks for 90 Dirhams ($9.00).

The rooftop patio is also really lovely. It’s pretty heavily shaded though so the views aren’t epic. But, it had a nice vibe since it’s quiet and your are surrounded by all these amazing plants.

I prefer to visit in the afternoon when the music isn’t super loud and when you can get a nice 2-course meal for 145 Dirhams ($14.50).

We stopped by around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and no one was here. Sure, this place has a nice botanical feel. However, the views are mediocre. So, try to visit other rooftops on this list first.

14. Maison de la Photographie

Like many of the best museums in Marrakech, the museum of Photography has a lovely rooftop cafe where you can grab tea/coffee and enjoy stunning views of the Medina.

Just be sure to take some to explore the actual museum, which was founded by Parisians Patrick Menac’h and Hamid Mergani.

In total, the collection features 4,500 photographs, 2,000 glass negatives, and 80 documents that are from 1870 through 1950.

It’s a small but awesome collection that is spread throughout 3 floors of a beautifully restored riad, with admission costing just 50 Dirhams ($5.00) per person.

All in all, it’s a great place to relax and spend a few hours during your 3 days in Marrakech. Afterward, check out the gift shop since they sell cool prints that are made from negatives in the museum’s collection.

15. Le Salama

I am not a huge fan of Le Salama. It is just too busy and crowded for me. Plus, the tables are packed in here so it feels like everyone is sitting on top of each other.

It also feels a bit too touristy for my taste, especially since they have this over-the-top belly dancing show in the evening.

However, it made it on this because the last time I was here the decor was stunning. We’re talking vibrant green walls with painted flowers and stunning green-hued tilework.

The whicker lanterns hanging from the ceiling also add a nice touch to the space and make it somewhere you want to hang out.

The view from the roof is also lovely and they actually have decent a/c up there. I also love that each of the three-floors has a unique theme, with the uppermost level serving drinks and tapas.

Personally, I liked the veggie tagine, guacamole, and hummus were all fairly decent the last time I was here.
